Mini Red

Mini tennis red’s age range is for players aged 5- 8 years old. To make learning easier it is played on a smaller court (11m x 5.5m), with a mini tennis net and rackets sized 19-23 inches. The balls are bigger, softer and slower enabling the children to be able to rally and develop correct technique. (this can be on all the pages).

Red 1 is aimed at our younger players, ages 5 and 6 years old or players that have been fast tracked from Tots Tennis by coach recommendation. These sessions are mainly basket fed and all players are the correct stances, how to serve and how to volley, the technique for both forehand and backhand, and how to move on court. Once players have a good understanding of the basics, we will then start to introduce them to rallying and get them playing the game of tennis. As players are able to hold longer rallies, further back from the net they will then be ready to progress to  Red 2.

Red 2 is aimed at our older Red ball players, ages 7 and 8 years old or players that have been fast tracked from Red 1 early by coach recommendation. These sessions contain a good mix of basket drills and rallying with the coach. Players will play from further back from the net than in Red 1 even though some of the players in these sessions could still be new to tennis so will will still go through all of the teaching progressions as we do in Red 1 and progress on the same teaching points. Players will be taught how to score points and be introducing them to the early stages of game play. When players can rally with the coach up to 15 shots or more, serve the ball in cross-court 5/10 times or higher from the red court baseline they will be ready to move to Red 3.

Red 3 is aimed at any player aged 5-8 years old that can rally with a coach from the red court baseline for 15 shots or more and serve cross-court 5/10 times. These sessions are aimed at getting players ready for matches, a small part of the sessions will be basket fed / rallying with the coach and for the majority of the sessions players will be expected to rally / compete with other players in the group. Players will learn how to work together to achieve certain targets and complete drills, learn basic match tactics and advance their technical skills for all shots. Our best players in Red 3 may be asked to compete in matches for the club 8 and under team.
